THE FIELD - IPC'S OLDEST TITLE - UNVEILS MAJOR NEW LOOK TO CELEBRATE ITS 155th YEAR OF PUBLICATION

July 15, 2008

TheField_Aug08 IPC Media's oldest title, The Field, is to unveil a comprehensive redesign with its August issue, following six months of research and preparation.

The redesign will see changes throughout the monthly title and will be revealed in the August issue, on sale July 17. The result will be the distillation of the classic and the contemporary, emphasising the outstanding quality of The Field's pictures and writing.

Editor Jonathan Young says: “The design team's brief was to create the effortless elegance you see in a thoroughbred horse and a Purdey gun, where less equals more. And led by Brett Lewis, Inspire's group creative designer, and Rebecca Hawtrey, our art editor, we have achieved exactly that.”

“The changes have been wholesale - fonts, type size, heads and sells, the running order, grids,” says Jonathan. “And we've pruned with Dimmocky determination. We're now left with what could be called 'essence of Field' if that didn't conjure up olfactory sensations of damp dog and cow pasture. And sound damn pretentious.”

The IPC Inspire title, founded in 1853, is not only IPC's longest-publishing title, but the oldest country magazine in the world, first hitting the news-stands when Dickens was finishing Bleak House.

Jonathan adds: “Like every classic brand, The Field has survived through constant evolution while remaining true to its original concept. We carry the best mix of shooting, fishing and general country features, along with the essential 'dinner-party' story – the one that's talked about for weeks after publication. In the August issue, for example, we've asked the experts to analyse Lady Chatterley's Lover, ignore the rude bits and give their verdict on Mellors' skills with the other game birds. Personally, I'm not sure I'd give him a reference.”

The Field's redesign will also be supported by a new look to the magazine's own dedicated website www.thefield.co.uk
